A lot of hard butter icing is for birthday cakes. This icing does not stick to the hand. So it is also used to cover cakes. Small animal figures are used for other images. And the specialty here is the butter icing that can be made into anything to eat. But this icing is very sweet.
You can cover the cake with hard butter icing like with fondant icing. But you can't put it on the cake as thin as fondant icing. Here's how to do it. Take a small ball of hard butter icing and place it on top of the cake and spread it thinly. Take a small ball again and thin it from where it left off. This is how you cover the cake with hard butter icing. Then flatten with a flat knife.
If too much icing is added to the hard butter icing, the cracks will dry out after sticking in this way. Can't even flat out. If so they are not suitable to cover the cake..then remove. Spread a little butter on the icing with a flat knife if it looks just cracked.
